5-Hit Blitz by Tate
Sunday, July 14th, 1985
After the Bay City 12-8 loss to Oshkosh and his 5-hit day left fielder Tim Tate told reporters, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school, or college ball, two hits in a game is very good... three or four hits even better... 5 or more are out of sight... and if it is in pro ball... it is really something special. It will get you in the record books, but you won't necessarily win the ballgame."

The 28-year-old player got into the record book today with a spectacular 5 for 5 game against the Oshkosh Outlaws.

The skipper of the Lake Monsters spoke glowingly of Tate, telling BNN writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Tim did that to perfection today. I just wish some more our players swung the bat as good as him. We might have won the game."

Tim Tate doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 8th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.

This season Tate is batting .260 with 69 hits and 6 home runs. He has scored 38 times and has 29 RBI.
