Hawkins Batters Oshkosh Big Time Sunday, August 12th, 2001 It was a sensational day at the plate for Bret Hawkins, but a letdown as well as the Lake Monsters dropped the game 6-4 to the Outlaws. Nonetheless the Bay City right fielder was pure misery for the Oshkosh pitching staff. He left them shellshocked with 5 hits in 5 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting. "It's always good to get a bunch of hits in a game, but you also want to win. That's the important thing," Hawkins said. The manager of the Outlaws told BNN reporters after the game, "Hawkins put the ball into play. He really hit it hard. When you do that, you've got a pretty good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw him some pretty good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball." Bret Hawkins singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and doubled in the 9th. This year Hawkins is hitting .390 with 4 home runs and 21 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .427 clip and scored 30 runs. |
