Jefferson City Jackalopes Win Heartland Series Sunday, September 25th, 2005 The Jefferson City Jackalopes are champions, today and forever. "Nobody can take this away from us, not ever," said an excited Rick Cravens after his club had defeated the Bay City Lake Monsters. "We worked hard and we accomplished our goal." The atmosphere was electric as the newly-crowned champs stormed the field as the game concluded. Fans cheered, gloves flew in the air, high fives and hugs were the order of the day. "From day one of spring training, I could see it in their eyes," said the Jefferson City manager. "The players had that look of intensity, of hunger, of a desire to accomplish something great, and today they did that - they're champions of the world." The Jackalopes took the series 4-3, with the final win being a 6-2 triumph. The new titleholders completed the regular season with a second-place finish in the South and a 81-63 record. As they head into the offseason, some people are already wondering if they can repeat. |
