Hot Bat Cooled, O'Finegan Hitless Against Monarchs
Tuesday, July 19th, 2005
Late in the game Stars third baseman Greg O'Finegan stepped into the batter box with his 24-game hitting streak on the line. Up to then he was without a hit. Sadly it just wasn't to be -- O'Finegan did not get a hit -- and his streak was finally over. The Monarchs had stopped him, not allowing him a hit in 3 at-bats. However, Lafayette won the game 7-2.
"Winning the game took some of the disappointment out of it," O'Finegan told reporters in the clubhouse. "Looking back on it, it was a great experience. Not too many players can say they had a hit in 24 straight games. It's something I will always remember."
In the 2005 season O'Finegan is hitting .326 with 10 home runs.
