Purple Knights Stop Baker at 26 Friday, July 10th, 1998 The Poplar Bluffs HS Purple Knights got more than a 10-7 victory over Springfield HS today at Vandals Ballpark. They put an end to Billy Baker's 26-game hitting spree by holding him without a hit in 3 at-bats. But it was no big deal to the Spuds left fielder. Baker seemed to feel more for his team than himself. "I had some great looks at some pitches that I should have hit. I missed some that I shouldn't have swung at. All in all, I wasn't much help with the bat today." In his stats this season, Baker has posted a batting average of .386 with 90 hits in 233 at-bats, 21 home runs and 77 RBIs. He has also scored 69 runs, walked 36 times and compiled a .482 OBP. |
