Super Swinger -- Jones Slams 5 Hits Wednesday, June 3rd, 1998 History in the making. That's what the fans at Ballpark of Waterloo HS got to see today, when Springfield HS outplayed the Purple Knights 9-0. Dan Jones of the Spuds came to the plate 5 times and came away with a dynamite day as he exploded for 5 hits against Poplar Bluffs HS. In the postgame press conference the Poplar Bluffs HS skipper quipped to reporters, "Hey, we tried to get him out. We threw everything but the kitchen sink against him and he hit it. Maybe we should've thrown the kitchen sink." Dan Jones doubled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 7th and singled in the 9th. Looking at his season stats, Jones has compiled a .343 batting average and a .412 on-base percentage, while hitting 5 home runs and driving in 28 runs. |
