Great Day for Jewett -- 5 Hits Friday, May 3rd, 1996 It was a sensational day at the plate for Dierks Jewett as he led the charge to a 24-4 win over the Atoms. The Duluth HS second baseman was pure misery for the Dayton HS pitching staff. He left them shellshocked with 5 hits in 7 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting. The manager for the Atoms told BNN reporters after the game, "Jewett put the ball into play. He really hit it hard. When you do that, you've got a pretty good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw some pretty good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball." Dierks Jewett singled in the 1st, struck out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run single in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th. In 1996 Jewett has hit at a .269 clip with 35 hits, 3 home runs, 15 RBIs and has scored 18 times. |
