During an era in which the Canton Kernals were the team to beat in the South League, Albert Lineberry was one of the main contributors to the organizations success. Lineberry spent virtually his entire career with the Kernals, joining the club for the inaugural year in 1978 and remaining the starting first baseman up until 1988 when he signed with the Poplar Bluff Predators as a free agent. Lineberry also spent one season with the Dayton Dawgs before being traded to the Oshkosh Outlaws, where he never made a big-league appearance. Lineberry finished his professional career with 1,589 career hits, a .301 batting average, .881 OPS, 1,002 RBI, and a 31.0 WAR. Lineberry appeared in six Heartland Series over his career, winning three of them, and being named the 1986 Heartland Series MVP as Canton defeated the Oshkosh Outlaws. During the series, Lineberry went 9-for-17 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI. Lineberry batted over .290 nine times in his twelve-year career, along with hitting 25 or more home runs in seven separate seasons. In 1993, Albert became the first player in HBL history to be inducted to the HBL as a member of a South League franchise.
